Juno in Scorpio

the asteroid Juno in tropical Scorpio

What the tradition reads

Juno has been read by astrologers only since the 1970s, after the first asteroid ephemeris made its positions available, and this delineation belongs to that modern practice. Cafe Astrology reads Juno's sign as the ground where a person wants to do well and wants the scales level, and describes Juno generally as carrying shades of Pluto and of Scorpio, with betrayal and infidelity among its named associations. In Scorpio, the site's delineation reads natives whose triggers are the undermining of their intelligence or their powers of perception, an attempt to pull something over them, a betrayal, or a matter kept hidden from them. Needing to be in the know is given as the requirement, and being treated as a fool as the offence that bothers entirely. The source adds a caution the corpus reports as the tradition's own, that such a person can be limited by living in the expectation that someone will pull the rug from under them. Placed against Juno's general reading of commitment and fair exchange, this is described as a placement where a bond is measured by candour, which is stated as a pattern and not as a claim about anyone's fidelity.

The story

The Greek Hera, whom the Romans equated with Juno, is not a mild figure in the myths. Wikipedia names as one of her defining characteristics a jealous and vengeful nature toward any who offended her, and especially toward the many lovers and illegitimate children of Zeus. The best known case is Heracles: Hera is said to have sent witches to hinder Alcmene's delivery, and they kept the birth from happening until Historis, daughter of Tiresias, tricked them by announcing that the child had already been born, at which they left and the delivery could proceed. Her wrath is reported as continuing against the child afterwards. Cafe Astrology reaches for the same material when it calls Juno a woman scorned and reads her as fiercely loyal while remaining in an unhappy marriage. A sign the tradition reads through what is hidden, what is exposed and what is not forgiven finds in that story the sharper end of a marriage goddess: the same power that blesses a union used against a rival.
