Chiron in the tenth house
Chiron (2060 Chiron) in the tenth house, read in the modern Western manner
What the tradition reads
Chiron in the tenth house is read only in modern practice, the body having been discovered in 1977; the delineation here is Cafe Astrology's, written by the astrologer Annie. Alan Leo, in a textbook first published in 1903, gives the tenth house profession and business ability, fame, honour and material reputation, and all worldly activities and moral responsibilities, and reads it as the public standing or worldly position, with parentage and hereditary tendencies among its matters too. Cafe Astrology reads Chiron there as a sensitivity to status, standing and the expectations of others that works as liability and strength at once. It reads a strong sense of structure, direction and boundary, and real skill in helping others order their lives and hold to their aims, with the application of the same to one's own affairs proving difficult: either shying away from one's potential and from taking a definite direction, or going at it hard and still never feeling accomplished enough. The page reads responsibility felt to the point of harm and expectations of the self it calls far too high, and allows early experience, including being expected to behave as an adult while still a child, as the ground of the hypersensitivity. It also reads the possibility of a healer's or guide's part being taken up publicly, and a reputation for being unlike anyone else.
The story
Reputation is the tenth house's business, and the centaur's is stated in the sources as a superlative. Wikipedia calls him the wisest and justest of all the centaurs, held to be the superlative centaur among his brethren, first among them and highly revered as a teacher and tutor, in pointed contrast with the rest of his kind, who were remembered as wild and violent when drunk. The body named after him had a brief and noisy public arrival: found on 1 November 1977, it was then the most distant known minor planet and the press went as far as calling it a tenth planet, a standing it did not keep, since it turned out to be the first of a class rather than the last of the planets. Alan Leo puts the cusp of the tenth house at the south point, the mid-heaven or upper meridian, classes it among the angles, which he says show all things that must be expressed outwardly, and calls it the apex of the horoscope, the portion thrust out most prominently into the busy life of the world.
