Black Moon Lilith in the seventh house

the mean Black Moon Lilith (the mean lunar apogee) in the seventh house

What the tradition reads

With Black Moon Lilith in the seventh house, the tradition reads her themes of exile and refusal as playing out in partnership and marriage rather than in the more private or personal houses. Cafe Astrology's delineation of Lilith by house ties the seventh house to the same reading given for Lilith in Libra, since both govern relationship with another as an equal: shame around needing companionship or approval, or a private conviction that dependency and compromise are weaknesses, producing discomfort around people who seek closeness openly while quietly wanting that closeness too. The tradition reads this as capable of extremes, either avoiding partnership altogether or entering it in a way that swings sharply between closeness and withdrawal. As with every Lilith placement, the suggested resolution is accepting the need for another person's company as an ordinary fact rather than a weakness to manage.

The story

The seventh house is angular, sitting opposite the first across the descendant, and governs marriage, partnership and the dealings a person has with another as an equal rather than as an extension of the self. Alan Leo calls marriage the chief influence of the house and the seventh itself the one that denotes relation, in which all partnerships and unions of every kind are shown, the complement of the first and the unifying of all that is separated or isolated in the ascendant. Lilith's placement here brings together two histories: the astrological point's beginning in Sepharial's 1918 proposal of a second, undiscovered moon, eventually abandoned once no such body was confirmed, and the older legend of Lilith, whose central refusal, according to the Alphabet of Ben Sira, was made specifically inside a partnership, to Adam himself, rather than to the wider world. A point whose own myth concerns a refusal made to a partner, placed in the house of partnership itself, gives the combination unusual directness: this Lilith is read as making partnership itself the arena where an old refusal, or an old shame about needing one at all, is most likely to surface.
