Black Moon Lilith in Pisces

the mean Black Moon Lilith (the mean lunar apogee) in tropical Pisces

What the tradition reads

Black Moon Lilith is not a body but a mathematical point, the mean apogee of the Moon's elliptical orbit, the place where the Moon moves slowest and stands furthest from the Earth; the tradition reads this empty point as a marker of shame rather than as a planet with any physical presence. Cafe Astrology's delineation reads Lilith in Pisces as shame around neediness and compassion: discomfort with appearing needy, wishy washy, or overtly spiritual, paired with irritation toward people who resist labels or decline to take the lead when Pisces natives feel someone should. The same source reads this discomfort as producing its own extremes, rejecting the compassionate or spiritual side of the self only to swing back into it later, a repeated cycle the tradition holds resolves once the person accepts sensitivity and compassion as simply theirs rather than as weaknesses requiring apology.

The story

Lilith enters modern astrology through the astrologer Sepharial, the pen name of Walter Gorn Old, who in 1918 proposed a second, undiscovered moon of the Earth and named it Lilith for the figure of medieval Jewish legend said to have been Adam's first wife. He linked the claim to an earlier one made around 1898 by the scientist Georg Waltemath, discredited by the scientific community within a few years, and no second moon has ever been confirmed. The name outlived the claim it was first attached to: astrologers redefined it as a point, the far focus of the ellipse the actual Moon traces around the Earth, opposite the Earth in that shape and completing a circuit of the zodiac roughly every eight years and ten months. In Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac and the one the tradition reads as dissolving boundaries rather than holding them, a point defined only by its distance from a body it never touches fits, in its own quiet way, a sign already comfortable with absence and with letting go.
