Uranus in Taurus

Uranus in tropical Taurus; because Uranus moves so slowly, the tradition reads a sign placement like this one for a whole generation as much as for any one person

What the tradition reads

Uranus spends about seven years in any one sign of its own eighty four year circuit of the zodiac, and Cafe Astrology's own delineation treats a Uranus sign placement chiefly as a generational influence for that reason, one shared by everyone born while the planet crossed that stretch of sky and only felt personally where it lines up with the Sun, Moon or another personal point in an individual chart. Taurus is a fixed earth sign, ruled by Venus, and the tradition reads it as the sign of steady accumulation, the material world and the natural world handled with patience. Uranus there is read as most interested in making changes, innovating and updating tradition around exactly that steady ground: money, interactions with the natural world, gardening, cooking, business, attitudes toward security and sensuality. A generation carrying the placement is read as one asked to reconsider, for everyone that follows, what security and material worth are even built from in the first place, atmosphere more than any one chart's private signature, best read next to whatever in that chart belongs more properly to the individual than to the age that produced them.

The story

Uranus, the primordial sky, fathered the Titans with Gaia, among them Cronus, who ended his father's long reign by castrating him with an adamantine sickle Gaia herself had made, angry that Uranus hated and hid away their children; the deed done, Uranus withdrew from the story entirely, and Aphrodite herself was said to have grown from the sea foam where his severed flesh had fallen. Taurus carries its own myth of disguise rather than violence: Zeus took the form of a magnificent white bull to carry off the princess Europa, only the animal's front half ever shown in the old pictures, the rest of him submerged in the very sea he swam. A planet undone by a sudden, total stroke meets, in Taurus, a sign built for exactly the opposite temperament, patient and slow to move; a generation under Uranus here is read as one that must break old, comfortable structures of security gradually rather than all at once, the bull's own patient disguise standing in for the abruptness the planet's own myth otherwise remembers.
