Uranus in Sagittarius

Uranus in tropical Sagittarius; because Uranus moves so slowly, the tradition reads a sign placement like this one for a whole generation as much as for any one person

What the tradition reads

Uranus spends about seven years in any one sign of its eighty four year circuit of the zodiac, and Cafe Astrology's own delineation treats a Uranus placement chiefly as a generational influence for that reason, shared by everyone born while the planet crossed that stretch of sky and felt personally only where it aligns with the Sun, Moon or another personal point in an individual chart. Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign, ruled by Jupiter, and the tradition reads it as the sign of belief, higher learning and the instinct to aim past the horizon one was given. Uranus there is read as most interested in making changes, innovating and updating tradition around exactly that ground: beliefs, the seeking of meaning, freedom of speech and thought, philosophies, religion, culture, education and vision. A generation carrying the placement is read as one asked to remake, for everyone that follows, what belief and higher learning are even allowed to include, atmosphere more than any one chart's private signature, best read alongside whatever else in that chart belongs more properly to the individual than to the age that produced them.

The story

Uranus, the primordial sky, fathered the Titans with Gaia, among them Cronus, who ended his father's reign by castrating him with an adamantine sickle Gaia had made, angry that Uranus hated and hid away the children she had borne him; the deed done, Uranus withdrew from the story and troubled it no further. Sagittarius's own archer carries two identities in the old tellings, named in one version as Chiron, a centaur able to change his own shape, said to have devised the constellation himself to guide the Argonauts, and in another as Crotus, a satyr and inventor of archery placed in the sky at the Muses' own request. A planet remembered for a single decisive stroke that changed the shape of the heavens meets, in Sagittarius, an archer whose own aim never misses once it is finally loosed; a generation under Uranus here is read as one that trusts its own aim the same way, certain enough of a belief to release it all at once rather than hold it back waiting for a better shot.
