Uranus in Pisces

Uranus in tropical Pisces; because Uranus moves so slowly, the tradition reads a sign placement like this one for a whole generation as much as for any one person

What the tradition reads

Uranus spends about seven years in any one sign of its eighty four year circuit of the zodiac, and Cafe Astrology's own delineation treats a Uranus placement chiefly as a generational influence for that reason, shared by everyone born while the planet crossed that stretch of sky and felt personally only where it lines up with the Sun, Moon or another personal point in an individual chart. Pisces is a mutable water sign, ruled traditionally by Jupiter and, in the modern astrologers' own addition, by Neptune, and the tradition reads it as the point where boundaries between one thing and another grow thin. Uranus there is read as most interested in making changes, innovating and updating tradition around exactly that ground: spirituality, compassion, religion, the arts and attitudes toward mental health and understanding. A generation carrying the placement is read as one asked to remake, for everyone that follows, how spirituality and compassion are even practiced and understood, atmosphere more than any one chart's private signature, best read alongside whatever else in that chart belongs more properly to the individual than to the age that produced them.

The story

Uranus, the primordial sky, fathered the Titans with Gaia, among them Cronus, who ended his father's reign by castrating him with an adamantine sickle Gaia had made, angry that Uranus hated and hid away their own children, the severed flesh afterward giving rise, in the sea where it fell, to Aphrodite herself; the deed done, Uranus withdrew from the story and troubled it no further. Pisces' two fish are remembered in one telling as Aphrodite and her son Eros, transformed in order to escape the monster Typhon and tied together by the tail so as not to lose one another in the water. A planet whose own myth ends with Aphrodite's own birth from its wreckage meets, in Pisces, the very sign carrying her own later escape by water; a generation under Uranus here is read as one asked to break suddenly with whatever old structure it must, trusting, the way the two fish trusted their own knotted cord, that something worth protecting can still be kept intact even in the middle of total upheaval.
