What the tradition reads

Uranus spends about seven years in any one sign of its eighty four year circuit of the zodiac, and Cafe Astrology's own delineation treats a Uranus placement chiefly as a generational marker for that reason, shared by everyone born while the planet crossed that stretch of sky and felt personally only where it aligns with the Sun, Moon or another personal point in an individual chart. Leo is a fixed fire sign, ruled by the Sun, and the tradition reads it as the sign of self expression, creativity and the wish to be seen for exactly who one is. Uranus there is read as most interested in making changes, innovating and updating tradition around exactly that ground: entertainment, love, romance, leisure, pleasure, children, creative pursuits and self expression. A generation carrying the placement is read as one asked to remake, for everyone after it, how creativity and self expression are even allowed to look, atmosphere more than any one chart's private signature, best read alongside whatever else in that chart belongs more properly to the individual than to the age that produced them.

The story

Uranus, the primordial sky, fathered the Titans with Gaia, among them Cronus, who ended his father's reign by castrating him with an adamantine sickle Gaia had made in anger at Uranus for hiding their children away; the deed done in a single stroke, Uranus withdrew from the story and played almost no further part in it. Leo's own lion was, to the Greeks, the Nemean Lion, impervious to every weapon, which Heracles had to fight bare handed, catching it in the air and breaking its back before Zeus placed it in the sky to commemorate the labour. A planet undone by a single sudden act meets, in Leo, a beast that could not be undone by any ordinary means at all and had to be met with total, direct effort instead; a generation under Uranus here is read as one asked to make its own break with old, settled authority just as completely and just as personally, rather than by the slower, more patient means other placements might prefer.
