Uranus in Capricorn

Uranus in tropical Capricorn; because Uranus moves so slowly, the tradition reads a sign placement like this one for a whole generation as much as for any one person

What the tradition reads

Uranus takes some eighty four years to cross the whole zodiac and spends about seven years in any one sign, and Cafe Astrology's own delineation reads a Uranus sign placement chiefly as a generational influence for exactly that reason, shared by everyone born while the planet crossed that stretch of sky and felt personally only where it falls closer to the Sun, Moon or another personal point in an individual chart. Capricorn, the sign of established structure and inherited authority, gives Uranus, the planet the modern astrologers read as the breaker of exactly that kind of authority, an unusually pointed assignment. Cafe Astrology's delineation describes this placement as seeking more freedom in or through the areas Capricorn itself governs, without feeling any particular need to conform, inclined to believe in breaking through the inhibitions or taboos built into tradition, formality, hierarchy, respect and structure generally. For any single chart carrying the placement, the tradition treats it mostly as atmosphere rather than personal signature, most visible in how a person relates to convention and authority in general, better read alongside whatever else in the chart belongs more properly to them.

The story

Uranus, the primordial sky, was Capricorn's own ruling planet's father: Cronus, whom the Romans called Saturn, was Uranus's son, and it was Cronus who ended his father's long reign by castrating him with an adamantine sickle at his mother Gaia's own urging, tired of her husband's cruelty toward their children. The overthrown sky father's planet arriving, so many centuries later, in the very sign that belongs to the son who deposed him carries an unmistakable weight: a generation under Uranus in Capricorn is read as living out, once again, the oldest succession story astrology has, an established order challenged from within by the very forces it once tried to suppress. What Cronus did to Uranus, the tradition suggests, a Capricorn generation raised under Uranus is asked to consider doing, more carefully and less violently, to whatever structures raised it.
