Pluto in Leo

Pluto in tropical Leo; because Pluto moves so slowly, the tradition reads a sign placement like this one for a whole generation as much as for any one person

What the tradition reads

Pluto takes roughly two hundred and forty eight years to complete the zodiac and lingers in a single sign for well over a decade, so the tradition built around it since its 1930 discovery treats a Pluto sign placement chiefly as a mark carried by an entire generation rather than a private detail of one chart. Leo is a fixed fire sign, ruled by the Sun, read by the tradition as the sign of self-expression, generosity of spirit and the wish to be seen for exactly who one is. Pluto there is read as that same wish given its most intense possible expression: Cafe Astrology's delineation describes feelings about love, romance, destiny, self-expression, children and creativity themselves as intense under this placement, nothing about self-expression left casual or lightly held. A generation carrying the placement is read as one asked to work out, often through real upheaval, what creativity, romance and self-expression are even allowed to look like once the older, more comfortable models of display and glamour stop quite working, atmosphere more than any one chart's private signature, an intensity that can tip into possessiveness in matters of the heart but is credited, at its best, with a creative honesty lighter placements rarely have reason to reach for.

The story

Hades, called Pluto by the Romans, received the underworld in a three way division of the world with his brothers Zeus and Poseidon, and appears in most later Greek myth only in a secondary role, chiefly as the possessor of some object a hero must claim from him. Leo's own lion was, to the Greeks, the Nemean lion, its hide impervious to every blade, strangled bare handed by Heracles in the first of his twelve labours and placed among the stars afterward by Zeus to honour that first proof of strength. A god remembered mostly for holding onto what other heroes had to fight their way toward meets, in Leo, a beast whose entire claim to fame was an invincible, admired body finally overcome by force; a generation under Pluto here is read as one that must wrestle its own glamorous self-image the way Heracles wrestled the lion, bare handed and at real risk, before any of it can be safely worn as its own.
