Neptune in Sagittarius
Neptune in tropical Sagittarius; because Neptune moves even more slowly than Uranus, the tradition reads a sign placement like this one for a whole generation as much as for any one person
What the tradition reads
Neptune takes some one hundred and sixty five years to cross the whole zodiac and spends around fourteen years in any one sign, and Cafe Astrology's own delineation treats a Neptune sign placement chiefly as a generational influence for that reason, one shared by everyone born while the planet crossed that stretch of sky and felt personally only where it lines up with the Sun, Moon or another personal point in an individual chart. Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign, ruled by Jupiter, and the tradition reads it as the sign of belief, higher learning and the instinct to aim past the horizon one was given. Neptune there is read as a vision of an ideal world centred on truth, tolerance, freedom, liberty, generosity and intellectual understanding, an idealisation of truth, justice and the power of positive thinking itself. A generation carrying the placement is read as one that dreams collectively of a wiser, more generous and more truthful world for everyone that follows it, atmosphere more than any one chart's private signature, an idealism that can drift into naivety wherever belief outruns what is actually true, though the same dream is credited with keeping a wider, more hopeful vision alive.
The story
Neptune, the Roman god of the sea and of fresh water, was remembered as a brother of Jupiter and Pluto, the three dividing the world between them, sky, sea and underworld, in fair and equal portions; before the sea claimed him fully, Neptune was linked especially to freshwater springs and, like his Greek counterpart, to horses and to horse racing. Sagittarius's own archer carries two identities in the old tellings, one naming him Chiron, a shape changing centaur who devised the constellation himself to guide the Argonauts, the other naming him Crotus, a satyr credited with inventing archery and placed in the sky at the Muses' own request. A god whose own share of the world was fixed by agreement among brothers rather than by conquest meets, in Sagittarius, an aim that never misses once it is finally loosed; a generation under Neptune here is read as one that dreams of a truth as sure and as unerring as that same aim, certain enough of its own vision to trust it the way the gods once trusted their own settled division of the world.
