Neptune in Gemini
Neptune in tropical Gemini; because Neptune moves so slowly, the tradition reads a sign placement like this one for a whole generation as much as for any one person
What the tradition reads
Neptune takes some one hundred and sixty five years to cross the whole zodiac and spends around fourteen years in any one sign, shared by everyone born while it crossed that stretch of sky and felt personally only where it lines up with the Sun, Moon or another personal point. Cafe Astrology's own delineations of Neptune in the signs begin only at Virgo, so a placement this old is read instead through the AstroTwins' account of it. Gemini is a mutable air sign, ruled by Mercury, read by the tradition as the sign of communication, curiosity and the restless, quick mind. Neptune there is read as a compassionate communicator whose charm draws people into conversation, fascinated by reading, writing and the workings of the mind, sometimes toward a healing practice built on talk itself, coaching or a workshop that teaches people to shift how they think. The same placement is read as an excellent planner of outings who can just as easily double book, forget arrangements, or invite along company that drains more than it gives. Left unchecked, the same account warns, it can drift into spinning paranoid narratives whenever insecurity sets in, speculating on motives and gossip rather than living its own life; the healing task set for it is to speak plainly for itself. A generation carrying the placement is read as one whose imagination and communication were shaped by that same fog around plain speech, atmosphere more than any one chart's private signature.
The story
Neptune, the Roman god of the sea and fresh water, is remembered as a brother of Jupiter and Pluto, the three of them presiding jointly over the realms of heaven, the earthly world with its underworld, and the seas; before the sea claimed him fully, Neptune was linked especially to freshwater springs, and the Romans worshipped him also as a god of horses and a patron of horse racing. Gemini's own twins, Castor and Pollux, were born to different fathers and so to different fates: Pollux was the son of Zeus, who had seduced Leda, while Castor was the son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta and Leda's husband. When Castor died, because he was mortal, Pollux begged his father Zeus to give his brother immortality, and Zeus granted it by uniting the two of them together in the heavens instead. A god remembered for presiding over his own share of the world jointly with two brothers meets, in Gemini, a pair who are already two considered as one, twins who shared everything between them except the one difference that mattered most, until an appeal in words closed even that gap; a generation under Neptune here is read as one that dreams of a communication so complete it could dissolve the hardest line there is.
