Ketu in Scorpio
Ketu, the south lunar node, in tropical Scorpio, its own exaltation
What the tradition reads
The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra names Vrischik, Scorpio, directly as both the exaltation sign and one of the two own signs of Ketu, a double dignity the classical text itself states plainly and without qualification. Wikipedia's own account of the node records a dispute the ancient text never raises: many modern astrologers instead name Sagittarius as Ketu's true exaltation, and Scorpio's dignity is kept alive chiefly through the older popular saying Wikipedia also records, Kujavat Ketu, that Ketu behaves like Mars, Kuja, and so is naturally at home in a sign Mars itself rules. Scorpio is a fixed water sign, ruled traditionally by Mars, read by the tradition as what will not let go until the truth beneath it is found. Cafe Astrology's own reading of the south node in Scorpio, drawn from the page pairing it with the north node in Taurus, describes the pattern being released here as an overreliance on the self, a clinging to possessions, habits and a fear of crisis that keeps security overvalued. Ketu exalted here, on the classical reading, is read as a fluency with intensity, transformation and the buried truth already so thoroughly mastered that a person no longer needs to dig for it, since whatever was hidden has, in some sense, already been found and already been survived.
The story
Ketu's own story begins at the churning of the ocean of milk, when the demon Svarbhanu was beheaded by Vishnu's discus for stealing a share of the gods' own nectar of immortality; because the nectar had already reached his throat, neither half of him could die, and the body walked on afterward as Ketu, whole in itself and unafraid of an ending that had already failed to finish it. Scorpio remembers the scorpion that stung the hunter Orion to death, a single sting delivered decisively and never withdrawn. A body that has already survived the one ending meant to finish it meets, in Scorpio, a sign built entirely around a sting most things do not survive at all; Ketu exalted in Scorpio is read as an intensity and a transformation already gone all the way through once, the sign's own hardest lesson already learned rather than still waiting to be faced.
