What the tradition reads
Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos gives Pisces to Jupiter outright, one of his two domiciles alongside Sagittarius, the sign in which he is read as fully at home in a gentler, more compassionate register than the confident, outward reach he shows in his other sign. Pisces is a mutable water sign, the last of the twelve, read by the tradition as compassion and a felt kinship with lives unlike one's own, and Jupiter in his own sign here is read as an abundance expressed through charity and devotion rather than through open confidence or competition. Cafe Astrology's delineation describes this placement as attracting its greatest good fortune specifically through charity, tenderness and compassion, a generosity aimed particularly at whoever is genuinely struggling, the underdog rather than the already fortunate. The tradition names an impracticality as the placement's ordinary cost, a Jupiter so devoted to giving that it can give away more than a situation can actually sustain, though the same compassion is credited with a good fortune that seems to multiply the more freely it is shared: an abundance that, in this domicile, appears to genuinely grow rather than shrink the more of it is given away to whoever needs it most.
The story
When Typhon attacked, most of the Olympians fled into Egypt and took on animal shapes to escape him: Apollo became a hawk, Hermes an ibis, Ares a fish, Artemis a cat, and Dionysus a goat, among others. Pisces keeps a separate telling of that same panic, in which Aphrodite and her son Eros escaped the monster by transforming into two fish rather than risk a fight they could not have won. Zeus and Athena alone stayed behind to finish it, Zeus raising his thunderbolt and striking the monster until it was beaten, finally buried for good under Mount Etna so that the rest of the gods, fish and all, could safely come home. Jupiter in his own domicile there is read as carrying this second half of the story, the god whose courage and strength let everyone else's flight actually end safely. Jupiter in Pisces is read as this quieter kind of protector, an abundance that shelters whoever has had to flee something too large to face alone, generous specifically because it remembers what it is to be the one who stayed and fought so that the frightened could come back.
