The full phase
general summary for a progressed Moon in its full phase
What the tradition reads
The progressed lunation cycle reads the roughly thirty year relationship between the progressed Moon and the progressed Sun, advancing a symbolic day for every year of life, as a slow repetition of the Moon's own visible phases. Rudhyar divided the cycle into eight phases of forty five degrees each, and the full phase, running from a hundred and eighty to two hundred and twenty five degrees of separation, is the fifth of the eight and its literal midpoint, corresponding to the Moon in full opposition to the Sun, the disc entirely lit. The tradition reads a full phase progressed Moon as "mental objectivity," the capacity to see a situation clearly from the outside and to make an ideal concrete, to receive an illumination the earlier phases had only been working toward. It is read as the cycle's phase of greatest awareness, where what was subjective in the new phase becomes visible and shareable, but the tradition names a real cost alongside the gift: a full phase native can feel oddly disconnected from ordinary reality even while seeing it more clearly than most, or can experience an internal division, pulled between the objective clarity it has gained and a self it has not fully reconciled with that clarity.
The story
Rudhyar's The Lunation Cycle set the eight phase scheme out as a life's sequence of psychological tasks rather than a birth type fixed once and for all, and read the full phase, fifth of the eight and the cycle's own midpoint, as the moment illumination is finally received rather than merely sought, mirroring the full moon's own position directly opposite the Sun in the sky. He developed the scheme while studying Carl Jung's psychology, calling his approach humanistic astrology and reading the chart as unfolding potential rather than a fixed fortune. The Rudhyar Archival Project's own summary of the eight lunation types keeps this reading close to Rudhyar's own language, naming the full phase native's mental objectivity and capacity to make ideals concrete, while also naming the risk of feeling disconnected from reality or internally divided that can accompany a clarity gained this directly and this early in the cycle's second half.
