Life path 2
general summary for a numerological life path of 2; outside astronomy
What the tradition reads
Like every life path number, two belongs to numerology rather than to astronomy: the method reduces each unit of a birth date, month, day and year, to a single digit or to one of a small set of master numbers kept whole rather than reduced further, and adds nothing from the position of any star or planet. A life path of two is read as the number of the peacemaker, the tradition's most sensitive path, carrying, in its own description, something of the soul of an artist, extremely perceptive and a little shy. It credits the number with tact and diplomacy, an intuitive sense of what the people around it want or feel, and a gift for cooperation that suits it to work alongside others rather than in front of them, often functioning, the tradition says, as the power behind whoever does stand in front. A well disposed two is read as bringing an eye for beauty, a taste for music and a harmonious setting, patience, and a good sense of humour that makes it a valued companion. Its named shadow is a delicate ego that bruises easily under criticism, a habit of withholding its own thoughts and running from confrontation rather than having it, and, when hurt too often, an occasional turn to the same sensitivity used vindictively, in personal criticism aimed to wound. The tradition also warns that a two does not always receive the credit its quiet work deserves, and must learn to claim it.
The story
The reading above comes from World Numerology, the practice Hans Decoz built after emigrating from Amsterdam to the United States in 1981 and opening a professional numerology practice in Houston. Decoz, who first found numerology in 1969 in a worn secondhand book, spent the following years consulting for clients and lecturing before turning his case work into the DecozChart, a charting system he designed in 1982 and computerised in 1987, and later into the fuller individual reports the current World Numerology site draws its life path readings from. The arithmetic underneath every life path number, reducing a birth date's digits to one figure, is not Decoz's invention: numerology generally traces its use of number back to the Pythagorean tradition, founded in the sixth century BCE by Pythagoras of Samos, recorded as practising isopsephy, deriving a numerical value from a name's letters, a different technique from birth date reduction but the ancestor modern numerology claims for its own methods. Because the whole calculation works from the calendar alone and claims no connection to the sky, this corpus keeps it in its own domain, separate from any reading built from an actual chart.
