The third bhava
the third whole-sign house in the Vedic chart, Sahaja Bhava
What the tradition reads
The third house, Sahaja Bhava, the house of the born together, governs younger siblings, courage and initiative, short journeys and communication, the hands and the arms, and a person's own effort as distinct from what fortune or inheritance provides. Where the ninth house, its opposite number, is read for fortune that arrives unearned, the third is read for what a person achieves by direct effort, skill and nerve, and the tradition accordingly treats it as the house of self made courage rather than granted luck. A well disposed third house is read as giving boldness, a capable pair of hands, good relations with siblings, and an ease with short travel, writing and everyday communication; afflicted, the tradition warns of a timid or reckless temperament, strained sibling relationships, or effort that does not translate into results. Because it sits two houses from the Ascendant, in the upachaya group of houses the tradition reads as improving with time and with age, a difficult third house is treated as one of the more forgiving weaknesses in a chart, since its native reading is that this bhava tends to strengthen rather than weaken as life goes on.
The story
Astrosutras.in's own line for the third house gives Sahaja Bhava a bodily seat of its own: Uttara Kalamrita's significations read "Arms, shoulders, hands, valour, and inclination towards sports or athletics," naming the very limbs that reach out, grip and write among the house's own concerns, alongside the courage and effort the house is read for elsewhere. Paramarsh.app's Kalapurusha doctrine reaches the shoulders, arms and hands by an entirely different route, its own map of the twelve rashis, not the twelve bhavas: the page places them, together with the lungs, at Mithuna, the third sign, describing "shoulders, arms, hands, collarbone, lungs, upper respiratory tract" as Mithuna's own region. Its FAQ states that the scheme works by "each of the twelve signs governing a specific anatomical region," and its discussion of the sixth house calls that rashi based map, together with any house's own analysis, "distinct tools" rather than one single map of the chart's twelve houses. The lungs belong to Mithuna's own reading alone; it is Uttara Kalamrita's line for the third house that licenses reading the arms, shoulders and hands as Sahaja Bhava's own concern.
