The fourth bhava

the fourth whole-sign house in the Vedic chart, Sukha Bhava

What the tradition reads

The fourth house, Sukha Bhava, the house of happiness, governs the mother, the home, land and property, vehicles, and the general contentment and emotional security of a life, along with the chest in the body. It is one of the four kendras, the angular houses the tradition treats as the pillars of a chart, and among them it is read as the most private and least public, concerned with the interior comfort of a life rather than its outward achievements. A well disposed fourth house is read as giving a settled home, a close bond with the mother, property and vehicles acquired without great struggle, and a basic contentment that underlies whatever else a person pursues; afflicted, the same house is read as unsettled domestic circumstances, a difficult relationship with the mother, or a restlessness that no external success quite resolves. Because the fourth also governs education in its foundational sense, the schooling and grounding a person receives early, the tradition reads a strong fourth house as giving a stable base from which everything built later in the chart can stand.

The story

Astrosutras.in's own line for the fourth house gives Sukha Bhava a bodily seat of its own: Phal Deepika's significations read "Domestic life, mother's influence, heart, chest, and land ownership," naming the heart and the chest directly among the house's own concerns, alongside the mother and the home the house is read for elsewhere. Paramarsh.app's Kalapurusha doctrine reaches the chest by an entirely different route, its own map of the twelve rashis, not the twelve bhavas: the page places the chest and the breasts at Karka, the fourth sign, describing "chest cavity, breasts, stomach (upper), ribs, lower lungs" as Karka's own region. Its FAQ states that the scheme works by "each of the twelve signs governing a specific anatomical region," and its discussion of the sixth house calls that rashi based map, together with any house's own analysis, "distinct tools" rather than one single map of the chart's twelve houses. That Phal Deepika's fourth house and paramarsh.app's fourth sign should each reach for the chest by two separate routes is not treated here as one doctrine but as two traditions agreeing without needing to be merged.
