Venus trine Saturn

Venus trine Saturn, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart Venus trine Saturn is read, together with the sextile, as one of the pairing's easy contacts, and sources describe the trine as the more dynamic of the two: Cafe Astrology's natal reading says such people are "cautious in love," careful of what they promise "as they generally feel obligated to follow through," excelling at long term committed partnership and practicality with both finances and affection. Between two charts, one person's Venus trine another's Saturn is read, together with the sextile, as a stabilizing bond: "the Saturn person acts to stabilize the Venus person's emotions," fostering genuine commitment and reliability; romantic attraction is not guaranteed by the aspect alone, but both partners are said to take the relationship seriously and depend on each other.

The story

A trine sets two bodies at the triangular distance from each other, four signs or one hundred twenty degrees apart; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs names it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins share the same gender. Saturn's Roman myth remembers him less for the violent act bound up in Aphrodite's birth than for the reign he is said to have kept afterward, "a Golden Age of abundance and peace." At the widest of the tradition's easy angles, that difficult origin is read as fully settled into that gentler register, affection resting on Saturn's discipline rather than straining against it.
