Venus sextile Uranus

Venus sextile Uranus, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart Venus sextile Uranus is read, together with the trine, as one of the pairing's easy contacts: Cafe Astrology's natal reading says the "ability to get along with and accept people from all walks of life as friends is strong," alongside a sharp instinct for detecting insincerity in others. The tradition credits this placement with real success at maintaining long distance or otherwise unconventional arrangements, an attitude toward love and romance the source calls "open and progressive." Between two charts, one person's Venus sextile another's Uranus is read, together with the trine, as a supportive bond in which "life is naturally exciting when you are with each other": the couple shares unconventional interests and accepts each other's individuality without strain, and, in the source's words, "the Venus person is romantically drawn to the Uranus person's more unusual and unique qualities."

The story

A sextile sets two bodies at the hexagonal distance from each other, two signs or sixty degrees apart; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs names it, together with the trine, harmonious, since the two signs it joins share the same gender. Hesiod's account of Aphrodite's birth is the plainer of the two the myth keeps: born, as Wikipedia records it, of the sea foam gathered around Uranus's own severed remains, she is, in this telling, quite simply his daughter, whatever Homer says elsewhere. At this easy angle the tradition sets the dispute over her parentage aside and reads the plainer account instead, an origin accepted rather than argued over.
