Uranus trine Uranus

the transiting Uranus's passage in trine to its own natal place, or one person's Uranus trine another's in synastry

What the tradition reads

A natal chart cannot show Uranus trine itself, since a single body cannot stand at an angle from its own degree; the tradition instead reads this key through transit, a station reached roughly a third of the way through Uranus's own eighty four year circuit. Cafe Astrology's transit reading describes this passage as an awakening to the need for greater freedom and self expression, new ideas or experiences turning a person on to different activities, people or pursuits, in what the source calls a smooth, comfortable period of change, distinct from the disruption the pair's harder contacts bring. Between two charts, a trine from one person's Uranus to another's is read through the same freedom-seeking, inventive character the tradition gives Uranus generally, made easy and cooperative rather than disruptive; because Uranus moves so slowly, partners a real distance apart in age are needed to produce this particular angle between two separate natal charts, rather than the near conjunction closer-aged partners already share.

The story

A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine, and Wikipedia's own summary calls the trine extremely beneficial, indicating harmony, ease and what is natural, more intense in its effect than the sextile though gentler than either hard aspect. Uranus meeting Uranus has no myth of doubling to draw on, since Uranus does not face himself in the surviving stories; the tradition reads the pairing instead through Uranus's own single story of primordial rule and sudden overthrow. Gaia bore him to cover her on every side, and together they produced the Titans, the Cyclopes and the Hundred-Handers, whom Uranus hated and hid away inside the earth; angered, Gaia armed Cronus, the only one of her children willing, with a sickle of adamant, and Cronus castrated Uranus and ended his reign in a single stroke. Uranus meeting its own natal place at this easier angle is read through the same character that story gives Uranus, change arriving as something to be welcomed rather than resisted.
