Uranus trine Pluto

Uranus trine Pluto, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Uranus trine Pluto is generational, Cafe Astrology notes, shared by many people born while the slow-moving pair holds this angle, its traits more obvious in a chart where Uranus or Pluto is also aligned with the Sun, Moon or Ascendant. With the trine in the birth chart, the tradition reads a belief in change and progress even at the cost of stirring things up, a natural refusal to conform or accept tradition unquestioned, a mind not easily rattled by human psychology, and a gift for finding creative, insightful solutions to problems that makes for a good counselor or support person. Between two charts, a trine from one person's Uranus to another's Pluto is read as good energy for understanding, and for moderating, the power dynamics that pass between the two people; because the two planets move so slowly, sources note the same generational pattern also shapes how commonly two people of similar age already share it as a natal contact within their own individual charts.

The story

A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine, and Wikipedia's own summary calls the trine extremely beneficial, indicating harmony, ease and what is natural, more intense in its effect than the sextile though gentler than either hard aspect. Uranus and Hades never meet directly in the myths that survive: Uranus, the primordial sky, was overthrown by his own son Cronus generations before the Olympian order that produced Hades had even been founded, Gaia having armed Cronus with a sickle of adamant and urged him to the deed. Hades belongs to that later Olympian generation, one of the six children Cronus and Rhea bore according to Hesiod; when the world was divided three ways among Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, the underworld fell to Hades, who presides there over the ending every mortal life eventually reaches. Set at this easier angle, the sky's abrupt ending and the underworld's total one are read as working together, sudden insight given the patience to become lasting change.
