Uranus trine Neptune

Uranus trine Neptune, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Uranus and Neptune are, in Wikipedia's own phrase, among the "slower moving planets," whose transits it calls more powerful and noticeable than those of the inner planets, so that a trine between them can persist for some time; no dedicated page treats this exact angle as marking out a particular span of birth years the way some of the pair's other contacts are treated. Within one chart, Cafe Astrology's transit reading for the trine describes a period of changing views around idealism, social reform and humanitarianism, revitalizing a person's dreams, imagination, spirituality and sense of wonder or inspiration, without the disruption the pair's harder contacts bring. Between two charts, a trine from one person's Uranus to another's Neptune is read through the same ease the placement carries generally: the Uranus person's originality and the Neptune person's imagination are read as reinforcing rather than unsettling each other, inventive ideas finding a receptive, sympathetic audience rather than resistance.

The story

A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine, and Wikipedia's own summary calls the trine extremely beneficial, indicating harmony, ease and what is natural, more intense in its effect than the sextile though gentler than either hard aspect. Uranus, the primordial sky, was born of Gaia to cover her on every side; together they produced the Titans, the Cyclopes and the Hundred-Handers, but Uranus hated them and hid them away inside the earth. Angered, Gaia fashioned a sickle of adamant and urged her children to punish their father; only Cronus, the youngest Titan, agreed, and with the sickle Gaia had made, he castrated Uranus and ended his reign. Neptune's own page names him a brother of Jupiter and Pluto, the three presiding together over heaven, the earthly world and its underworld, and the seas, the sea itself falling to Neptune as his particular share. Set at this easier angle, the sky's ancient rupture and the sea's dissolving character are read as working together, invention finding a receptive, imaginative element to move through rather than a resistant one.
