Uranus sextile Uranus
the transiting Uranus's passage in sextile to its own natal place, or one person's Uranus sextile another's in synastry
What the tradition reads
A natal chart cannot show Uranus sextile itself, since a single body cannot stand at an angle from its own degree; the tradition instead reads this key through transit, a station reached well before the halfway point of Uranus's own roughly eighty four year circuit. Cafe Astrology's transit reading describes this passage as a time when a person's views on personal freedom, broader social issues and innovation are changing in notable and meaningful ways, grouping the sextile with the harder square that comes later in the same circuit as both involving real change, though the sextile's own easier angle asks to be built with rather than simply endured. Between two charts, a sextile from one person's Uranus to another's is read through the same freedom-seeking, inventive character the tradition gives Uranus generally, an easy, cooperative note on questions of independence and reform; because Uranus moves so slowly, partners of noticeably different ages are needed to produce this angle at all between two separate natal charts, rather than the near conjunction that similarly aged partners already share.
The story
A sextile is sixty degrees, a sixth of the circle, one of the four configurations Ptolemy names, formed between signs of the same gender; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls the sextile, together with the trine, harmonious, and Wikipedia's own summary describes it as similar in influence to the trine but less intense, indicating compatibility and harmony that eases communication and opens opportunity. Uranus meeting Uranus has no myth of doubling to draw on, since Uranus does not face himself in the surviving stories; the tradition reads the pairing instead through Uranus's own single story of primordial rule and sudden overthrow. Gaia bore him to cover her on every side, and together they produced the Titans, the Cyclopes and the Hundred-Handers, whom Uranus hated and hid away inside the earth; angered, Gaia armed Cronus, the only one of her children willing, with a sickle of adamant, and Cronus castrated Uranus and ended his reign in a single stroke. Uranus meeting its own natal place at this cooperative angle is read through the same character that story gives Uranus, change arriving, though gently enough here that it asks to be worked with rather than simply endured.
