The story

A conjunction fuses two natures at the same degree, sitting outside the four mutual configurations Ptolemy's chapter on the signs measures by fixed distance; Wikipedia's own summary calls conjunctions the most powerful aspects, since they mutually intensify the effects of the bodies involved, their character as easy or hard depending on which planets meet there. Uranus, the primordial sky, was born of Gaia to cover her on every side; together they produced the Titans, the Cyclopes and the Hundred-Handers, but Uranus hated them and hid them away inside the earth. Angered, Gaia fashioned a sickle of adamant and urged her children to punish their father; only Cronus, the youngest Titan, agreed, and with the sickle Gaia had made, he castrated Uranus and ended his reign. Neptune's own page names him a brother of Jupiter and Pluto, the three presiding together, in its own words, over heaven, the earthly world and its underworld, and the seas, the sea itself falling to Neptune as his particular share. Fused together, the sky's ancient, sudden rupture and the sea's fluid, dissolving character are read as one force, an origin old enough to precede all structure joined to an element that structure could never really hold.
