The Sun trine Venus
the Sun trine Venus between two charts in synastry (the two cannot stand at this angle within a single nativity)
What the tradition reads
Within a single chart the Sun and Venus cannot stand a hundred and twenty degrees apart: Ptolemy notes that Venus never reaches a greater distance from the Sun than two signs, and Cafe Astrology confirms that with the two never more than about forty eight degrees apart, only the conjunction and the minor semi-sextile and semi-square can occur between them in one nativity, a source there attributed to Max Heindel stating plainly that Venus's small orbit keeps her from ever trining the Sun at all. The tradition reads this key only where it can actually occur, between two separate charts. Between two charts, one person's Sun trine another's Venus is described as probably the most fortunate aspect the two bodies can form in synastry: sources say the two people come to value each other deeply, with complacency the only real risk, and even that risk is usually offset by enough challenge elsewhere in the two charts to keep the connection from growing dull.
The story
A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine. Venus was born, in one telling, from sea foam gathered around the severed genitals of Caelus-Uranus after his own son overthrew him, rising from the water already fully formed. Virgil pictures her as the morning star guiding Aeneas, bright even in the Sun's own daylight sky, never a rival to its light but a companion to it. A trine between the two, possible only in synastry, is that companionship at its easiest, beauty and identity sharing the same sky without either needing to give way.
