Saturn trine Saturn
the transiting Saturn's periodic pass in trine to its own natal place, or one person's Saturn trine another's in synastry
What the tradition reads
A natal chart cannot show Saturn trine itself, since no body can stand at an angle from its own degree; the tradition reads this key through transit, at the points in Saturn's cycle where its transiting place trines its own natal one. Sources describe the pass as a period when organizing one's life or working toward greater security runs smoothly, a moderate and balanced approach to one's plans coming more naturally and helping a person see their own circumstances realistically; it is read as a good time to invest in the future precisely because that realism, rather than any special effort, is doing the work. Between two charts, one person's Saturn trine another's joins two structures at the easiest possible angle, a hundred and twenty degrees apart. None of the sources consulted for this entry gives a separate reading for this specific contact in synastry, so none is offered here.
The story
A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine. Wikipedia's own summary of the aspect calls the trine extremely beneficial, indicating harmony, ease and what is natural, and associates it with an innate talent or ability rather than one that has to be built. Saturn meeting Saturn has no myth of doubling to draw on, since the god does not typically face himself in the old stories; the tradition instead returns to the settled reign that came after his own fall rather than to the fall itself. The Saturn page preserves Virgil's account of that reign in Italy: Saturn gathered together the unruly race of fauns and nymphs scattered over the mountain heights and gave them laws, so that, in the poet's own words, "in such perfect peace he ruled the nations." Set at this easier angle, two charts' Saturns are read the same way: not a single dramatic recognition, but the settled, orderly peace of a rule that has already found its own best shape, with nothing left to contest.
