Saturn trine Neptune
Saturn trine Neptune, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry
What the tradition reads
Alan Leo's older delineation reads Saturn trine Neptune as a benefic contact that grants an ability to concentrate one's efforts in one direction with very great persistence, a wonderful power of perseverance he says survives obstacles and defeats, together with a lasting liking for the strange and uncommon and a note that music always has a peculiar effect on such a person's inner nature. Astrology King's reading of the same trine names a talent for turning dreams into reality through hard work and patience, a person who is a dreamer but also practical and sensible, optimistic yet realistic about their own potential; the same source names a strong sense of justice, charity, and a talent for giving concrete form to feeling that can suit careers as varied as musician, artist, writer or priest. Between two charts, one person's Saturn trine another's Neptune places the two planets at this harmonious angle across the two charts; the sources consulted for this entry give no separate reading for the synastry contact itself.
The story
A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine. Wikipedia's own summary of the aspect calls the trine extremely beneficial, indicating harmony, ease and what is natural. Saturn and Neptune are father and son: the Neptune page names Saturn and Ops as his parents, and names him a brother of Jupiter and Pluto, with whom he presides over the three realms of heaven, the earthly world (including the underworld), and the seas. Set at this easier angle, the father's old authority and the son's share of the sea are read as content with each other's separate ground, the same boundary that elsewhere causes strain here settled rather than contested.
