Saturn sextile Neptune

Saturn sextile Neptune, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart Saturn sextile Neptune is read as "a wonderful sense of both the material and spiritual worlds," the native especially skilled, sources say, at bringing imagination to life or turning a dream into something real. The tradition names a compassionate, practical temperament with a strong work ethic and a well developed social conscience, along with a real capacity for counselling or mediation born of being "exceptionally perceptive and understanding," the whole contact credited with adding balance to the personality in several ways at once. Between two charts, one person's Saturn sextile another's Neptune is read as complementary: "the Neptune person helps inspire Saturn, and Saturn stabilizes Neptune in helpful ways," the two partners readily coming to one another's aid and feeling a shared sense of responsibility for each other on both material and emotional levels. Sources describe it as a strengthening aspect, equally welcome in a personal bond or a working one.

The story

A sextile is sixty degrees, a sixth of the circle, one of the four configurations Ptolemy names, read through the compatible signs it joins and requiring some active engagement on the native's part to bear its ease into use. Neptune is one of three brothers, with Jupiter and Pluto, who divided the cosmos after their father Saturn's fall; Neptune's own page names the sea as the portion that division gave him. At this easier angle, the father's old authority over boundary and the son's restless sea are read as cooperating rather than colliding, each keeping to its own side of the shoreline the two of them still share.
