Neptune trine Neptune
the transiting Neptune's passage in trine to its own natal place, or one person's Neptune trine another's in synastry
What the tradition reads
A natal chart cannot show Neptune trine itself, since a single body cannot stand at an angle from its own degree; the tradition instead reads this key through transit, a station reached roughly a third of the way through Neptune's own approximately one hundred and sixty four year circuit. Cafe Astrology's transit reading describes circumstances as seeming to highlight and enhance a person's innate spirituality, compassion and idealism at this point, making it easier to find like minded people or those who support one's own personal vision, and to more readily express a sense of wonder and awe, helpful life lessons enhancing the imagination and de-emphasizing material goals and ego needs. Between two charts, a trine from one person's Neptune to another's is read through the same imaginative, idealizing character the tradition gives Neptune generally, made easy and cooperative rather than disruptive; because Neptune moves so slowly, partners a real distance apart in age are needed to produce this particular angle between two separate natal charts, rather than the near conjunction closer aged partners already share.
The story
A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine, and Wikipedia's own summary calls the trine extremely beneficial, indicating harmony, ease and what is natural, more intense in its effect than the sextile though gentler than either hard aspect. Neptune meeting Neptune has no myth of doubling to draw on. Neptune's own page instead gives his single story: son of Saturn and Ops, and, in the Greek-inspired tradition the page also names, a brother of Jupiter and Pluto with whom he presides over heaven, the earthly world and its underworld, and the seas, the sea and fresh water falling to Neptune as his own particular share. His festival, the Neptunalia, fell at the height of summer, when water ran shortest. Neptune meeting its own natal place at this easier angle is read through the same fluid character that page gives Neptune, imagination and belief moving easily rather than being forced.
