The Moon trine Venus

the Moon trine Venus, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart the Moon trine Venus is read, like the sextile, as an amiability that is a distinct characteristic of the placement. The tradition describes the trine as the more dynamic of the two harmonious Moon-Venus contacts, this same natural warmth expressed consistently rather than simply available when reached for, moods leaning toward pleasure and harmony as a steady undertone to the whole personality. Between two charts, one person's Moon trine another's Venus is read as a genuine liking, natural affection and sweetness, the same qualities the tradition names for the sextile, here felt with the least friction of any Moon-Venus contact, a mutual softening the tradition expects to support the relationship through conflict and simply to wear well over time.

The story

A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs calls it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins are of the same kind, all masculine or all feminine, and Wikipedia's own summary of the aspect calls the trine extremely beneficial, indicating harmony, ease and what is natural, one of the two aspects the tradition sets against the square and opposition's discord. Aphrodite, whom Rome called Venus, is not born as an infant in the oldest telling but rises fully grown from sea foam, produced when Cronus cast his father Uranus's own severed genitals into the water; Roman theology went on to describe her as the yielding, watery female principle, essential to the generation and balance of life, a birth and a nature both tied to water before they are tied to anything else.
