Mars trine Jupiter

Mars trine Jupiter, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart Mars trine Jupiter is read, together with the sextile, as one of the pairing's easy contacts, and sources describe the trine as the more dynamic of the two: Cafe Astrology's natal reading says it "adds energy, sincerity, frankness, a sense of adventure, and a love of life to the personality" and credits the aspect with "a lucky streak, largely due to their faith in their vision." The tradition names fair mindedness, energy, and a naturally inspiring manner of leadership as part of the same easy cooperation between force and confidence. Between two charts, one person's Mars trine another's Jupiter is read, together with the sextile, as a bond that "brings out the enthusiasm, wonder, desire to learn" in each other, resting on "mutual respect" and a shared sense of good fortune that encourages both partners toward meaningful action.

The story

A trine sets two bodies at the triangular distance from each other, four signs or one hundred twenty degrees apart; Ptolemy's chapter on the mutual configuration of the signs names it, together with the sextile, harmonious, since the signs it joins share the same gender. Mars is named, on the Roman tradition's own terms, Jupiter's son, born in the more usual account of Jupiter and Juno together; Wikipedia's page for Jupiter lists Mars among his children without recording any conflict between them. At the widest of the tradition's easy angles, sovereignty and force are read as fully at ease with each other, the son's energy placed naturally and without strain at the father's service.
