Mars sextile Uranus

Mars sextile Uranus, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart Mars sextile Uranus is read, together with the trine, as naturally inventive, bold, impulsive and courageous, sources say, a native who dares to be different and stands out pleasantly from the crowd. Between two charts, this sextile is read among the pairing's easier contacts: a reassuringly comfortable level of excitement, novelty and intrigue, sources say, natural excitement and experimentation together, the Mars person appreciating the Uranus person's uniqueness while the Uranus person gains motivation from Mars to act on ideas and explore unconventional paths.

The story

A sextile is sixty degrees, a sixth of the circle, one of the four configurations Ptolemy names, read through the compatible signs it joins and asking for a degree of active engagement before its ease is felt; Wikipedia's own summary of the aspect calls it similar to the trine but less intense, indicating compatibility and harmony. Ares plays no part in the story, but the first violence the Greeks told of the sky is already the terms Mars would later claim as his own: Cronus, at Gaia's own urging, took a weapon to his father Uranus and cut him down, a single forceful stroke that ended Uranus's reign outright and let a new order begin. Set at this easier angle, force can draw on Uranus's own suddenness without being derailed by it, action willing to change course quickly when a genuinely better one appears.
