Jupiter trine Uranus
Jupiter trine Uranus, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry
What the tradition reads
Within a single chart Jupiter trine Uranus is read as a native for whom "very little escapes you regarding potential opportunities or possibilities," a powerful intuition that serves them well and often works through sudden hunches or a flash of inspiration rather than deliberate reasoning. The tradition names a person "not tied to tradition and convention as much as many people," an advocate for freedom of speech and thought with a strong inventive spirit, future oriented and far sighted, with good timing and a talent, sources note, for inspiring and uplifting the people around them. Between two charts, one person's Jupiter trine another's Uranus is read, in the source's own words, much as the sextile is: the pair "seem to encourage each other's unconventional or unique sides" and collaborate easily on highly interesting and novel ideas, neither expecting the relationship to follow every traditional norm or expectation.
The story
A trine is a hundred and twenty degrees, a third of the circle, one of the four configurations Ptolemy names and one of the two he calls harmonious. Uranus is Jupiter's own grandfather, two generations back in the genealogy the Uranus page traces. Gaia, angered by his cruelty toward their children, persuaded her son Cronus to overthrow him, and it was Cronus, that same page says, whom Uranus and Gaia in turn warned would himself be overthrown by one of his own children, a warning that led Rhea to protect the infant Zeus so the prophecy could eventually be fulfilled. At this flowing angle, Jupiter's settled order and Uranus's ancient memory of being unseated read as reconciled rather than opposed, the grandson's rule secure enough to hold its grandfather's old lesson without any threat to itself.
