Jupiter sextile Uranus

Jupiter sextile Uranus, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart Jupiter sextile Uranus is read as visionary and intuitive, the tradition naming a taste for unexpected luck and a readiness to "welcome change and innovation" once the native trusts the visions that come to them. Sources describe a free spirit and individualist who values originality, keeps a good sense of humour, and sometimes has prophetic dreams, ideas and opinions that read as somewhat unconventional against the background of the native's own tradition, with sources noting that profit and benefit tend to come from new or progressive industries specifically. Between two charts, one person's Jupiter sextile another's Uranus is read as mutual encouragement of "each other's unconventional or unique sides": the pair tend to come up with highly interesting and novel ideas together, and sources note that neither partner expects the relationship itself to follow every traditional norm or expectation, the bond leaving room for both people's independence.

The story

A sextile is sixty degrees, a sixth of the circle, one of the four configurations Ptolemy names, read through the compatible signs it joins and requiring some active engagement on the native's part to bear its ease into use. Uranus is Jupiter's own grandfather, two generations back in the genealogy the Uranus page traces. Gaia, angered by his cruelty toward their children, persuaded her son Cronus to overthrow him, and it was Cronus, that same page says, whom Uranus and Gaia in turn warned would himself be overthrown by one of his own children, a warning that led Rhea to protect the infant Zeus so the prophecy could eventually be fulfilled. At this easier angle, Jupiter's hard won settlement can simply consult Uranus's older memory of being overthrown, without either needing to relive it.
