Jupiter sextile Saturn
Jupiter sextile Saturn, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry
What the tradition reads
Within a single chart Jupiter sextile Saturn is read as an instinct for moderation: "moderation is the beauty of this combination, you instinctively know that moderation is the key to happiness and success." The tradition credits the native with learning readily from experience, a balanced judgment about risk and opportunity, and "a strong ability to put your ideas into action and a good possibility of material success," the whole supported by patience, realism, practicality, modesty and fairness, along with a settled faith and trust in the ebb and flow of life. Between two charts, one person's Jupiter sextile another's Saturn is read as mutually stabilising: the pair "help one another get to a realistic yet hopeful perspective," and their business and work goals "tend to be compatible or blend well" whether pursued together or apart. Sources call it a highly favourable aspect in any relationship, particularly a business one, the two partners tending to advise one another well or simply enjoy debating things through.
The story
A sextile is sixty degrees, a sixth of the circle, one of the four configurations Ptolemy names, read through the compatible signs it joins and requiring some active engagement on the native's part to bear its ease into use. Jupiter usurped his own father Saturn to become king of the gods. Saturn's own page tells this without any war: it says only that he arrived in Italy "dethroned and fugitive" after his son took power, and that there he brought agriculture and civilization, for which Janus rewarded him with a share of the kingdom. The reign the two of them kept together afterward is remembered, in Virgil's account that the page quotes, as a golden age, "in such perfect peace he ruled the nations." At this easier angle, the son's new confidence and the father's older caution simply take turns advising each other, each lending the other something it would otherwise lack.
