Jupiter opposite Pluto

Jupiter opposite Pluto, within one nativity or between two charts in synastry

What the tradition reads

Within a single chart Jupiter opposite Pluto is read as ambition that can intensify "to the point where you feel you're in a pressure cooker," big thinking and big aspirations paired with a native who is rarely satisfied with what has already been achieved. The tradition warns that the pressure to succeed can lead to poor judgment and an all or nothing approach where moderation would serve better, and that relationships can devolve into power games under the strain, though the same intensity, channelled well, is credited with "a great power to heal, reform, and improve." Between two charts, one person's Jupiter opposite another's Pluto is read much as the square is: "goals often clash, and if they do, there can be frustrating misunderstandings, or it's taken personally," with compromise difficult and one partner sometimes resisting responsibility altogether. Sources suggest that turning the pair's shared energies toward a joint project can improve the dynamic considerably.

The story

An opposition is a hundred and eighty degrees, the full diameter of the circle, standing two bodies at the greatest possible distance; Ptolemy counted it among his four configurations. Jupiter and Pluto are brothers. Cronus, the Titan the Saturn page says the Romans conflated with their own Saturn, fell from power, and the cosmos was divided in three among his sons: Zeus, whom the Jupiter page itself names as the Greek original the Romans retold under Jupiter's name, took the sky; Poseidon took the sea; Pluto took the underworld, on the telling Pluto's own page gives. Standing at the full distance of the wheel from each other, the brothers face one another as the two furthest points their father's fall gave them, sky and underworld each the other's opposite number in the world they divided.
